The exclusivity you forgot about
Exclusivity is not an event, it is a PERIOD. You agree to it in March and it bites in June — when the second brand from the same shelf shows up and nobody remembers the first one is still running.
Exclusivity is a period, not an event
Category exclusivity means you do not show competing products for a stretch of time. Modash's guide (29 July 2026) describes windows from forty-eight hours around a post all the way to year-long arrangements — a range in which “briefly” and “for a year” go by the same name. It is something you SELL, not a concession. InfluencerFee's rate table (26 August 2026) gives the premium on top of the base rate: 20–35% for thirty days of category exclusivity, 50–75% for ninety days, 100–150% for a year. If it has a price, it has an end date — and that date has to be remembered. Source: https://influencerfee.com/blog/influencer-exclusivity-pricing-guide/
Where collisions come from
Not from carelessness. From arithmetic: five collaborations a year is five periods, five categories and five territories, each with its own start and end. The second brand asks in month two, while the first window is still open, and the conversation happens in a different thread from that one.
- Categories are not disjoint: “cosmetics” and “skincare” can be the same shelf to the brand that pays.
- Territories overlap: “Europe” contains the country you agreed to separately.
- Periods count from different anchors — from publication, from handover, from signing.
- A spreadsheet shows what you typed in. It does not show what clashes with what.
What Umova does with it
Recorded rights and exclusivities are compared deterministically: category against category, territory against territory, period against period, brand against brand. The collision surfaces the moment a new right is recorded, not the moment the first brand calls.
- The check also runs BEFORE you accept: you ask “can we take this” and get an answer from facts, not from memory.
- The rights timeline shows what expires and when — a time-limited licence is an asset with a date, not a one-off event.
- The comparison is on your side and stays with you. We show it to nobody else.
Detecting a collision is a WARNING, not a decision. Two things in the same category can sometimes be reconciled, and that is yours to judge — the tool is there so that you judge it knowingly, before you say yes.
